Civic Engagement

We work to educate voters

Civic Engagement

Civic engagement is how everyday people shape public life—and MNSIP is built to make that possible for every Somali and immigrant community in Minnesota. We believe that democracy only works when everyone participates. Whether it’s voting, organizing a town hall, or running for school board, civic involvement is how change begins.

Our community has faced unique challenges when it comes to political participation: language barriers, unfamiliar systems, and a lack of outreach. But that doesn’t mean we lack interest or ideas. Somali Minnesotans are ready to lead—we just need the tools, the space, and the encouragement to do so.

That’s what MNSIP provides. We build bridges between people and power.

Our work includes:

  • Voter registration drives and education campaigns

  • Leadership development for youth and first-time candidates

  • Community town halls and policy roundtables

  • Training programs on public speaking, advocacy, and civic rights

  • Culturally informed materials in Somali and other community languages

We’re looking for future leaders, volunteers, and voices of change. Is that you?
